Filmography

Before John’s death in 1982 he had made 7 appearances on the big screen (he also had a few TV movies and even supplied the voice for a cartoon). John had a long list of movies that he had signed to do but he did not live to make, imagine how Ghostbusters would have been with Belushi playing the part Bill Murray filled? Would have been great huh? We are left to cherish the work John did get to complete

  • Going South - 1978
  • Animal House -  1978
  • Old Boyfriends - 1979
  • 1941- 1979

Director Steven Spielberg had hoped for a Jurassic turnout for this comedy, but it fizzled at the box-office. John played Wild Bill Kelso an uncontrollable fighter pilot who attempts to stop an imaginary Japanese invasion of the California coast. Spielberg had originally hoped to sign John Wayne to play the part of General Stillwell, but his poor health prevented him from filling the part. This left the weight of the movie resting on John’s shoulders. His fighter pilot role suits him just fine and it is well worth a watching if you haven’t seen it. It also stars John’s tag team partner Dan Aykroyd and John Candy.

John stars as big city reporter Ernie Souchak, whose columns have offended most of the Chicago Mafia. After he is ends up in the hospital and his is apartment blown up, John’s editor sends him to Colorado to do a story on an eagle researcher. After about dying from the long mountain hike, John arrives at her cabin in the wilderness. They have their problems getting along but eventually they do fall in love. But John has to leave and go back to Chicago when one of his informants is killed. Continental Divide earned John high marks as this proved he could handle the dramatic roles as easy as the comedic ones.

  • Neighbors - 1981

John is teamed up once again with his partner Dan Aykroyd in this suburban comedy. John plays Earl Kesse, your average working class man whose life is turned upside down when his new neighbor (played by Aykroyd) moves in. It’s obvious from the start that Dan isn’t your average neighbor and a series of crazy events unfold that has Earl wondering just where this conehead (pardon the pun) came from! Its always a treat to watch these two team up!

Does anyone know why ‘Neighbors’ & ‘Wired’ have not been released on DVD? Has John been forgotten? Obviously so since I’m the only one here & no one else has posted a single comment(4/22/2008). The only thing more tragic than his death would be for people to forget about this great talent’s life.

Wired- terrible & probably no one has an interest in a bad story of mr.Belushi. 2nd, I’ve spent a long time lookingfor an American release of “Neighbors”. From what I’ve gathered for info has something with several ownerships of the movie and the typical issues with money. Fortunately, outside of the US, there are differnet companies producing DVD releases of movies, such as “Neighbors”. Some would consider as bootlegging, and maybe so, but I’ve seen DVDs with great quality. You can find if you look…
